The ultimate 1980’s turbo sports coupe.
The Porsche 930 Turbo was the flagship of the 911 range. Introduced in 1975 the 911 Turbo had a 3 litre engine with 260 bhp, good for 153 mph. However, more important than the top speed, was the cars blistering acceleration, hitting 100mph in 14 seconds, the later cars reducing the already impressive figure to11.8 seconds! Unlike other 1970's turbo assisted road cars, BMW's 2002 and Saab's 99, the 911 produced plenty of power 'off' turbo, providing great flexibility and ease of use.
The clubs Ice Blue car is a 3.3 litre version producing a mighty 300 bhp at 0.8 atmospheres of Turbo pressure. A quick glance is enough to confirm that this is a very special car. With a huge rear wing, low front spoiler and wide flared arches, the car looks extremely purposeful even at rest.
A wide track and large ventilated disks, with four piston calipers, ensure the 160+ mph Porsche, handles and stops as well as it goes. However, with no traction control or abs it is a car that should be treated with utmost respect. As with all other 911's the rear mounted engine acts as a pendulum if the car is pushed beyond the cars excellent road holding capabilities, especially in the wet.
A true 70's/80's icon, the 911 Turbo will increase in desirability, as has the 1973 RS Carrera, a legend that needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
