We have always had an eye for something a little different at Classic Car Club, so when this BMW Z1 turned up one day we just had to have it.
The forerunner to the Z3 and current Z4, the Z1 is a rare and exotic thing, inspired by traditional roadsters that could be driven with the doors removed to heighten the thrill of open top motoring.
Obviously a modern BMW couldn't have anything so Heath Robinson as clip off doors, so the bods in Bavaria created an elaborate system whereby the doors drop into the sills.
The club's car is in black with "camouflage" leather sports seats and as all Z1's it is left hand drive but it is small and easily manoeuvrable, so it isn't too much of a challenge.
