1965 Buick Riviera

The 1965 Buick Riviera is an exceptional car. Definitely not your typical Yank Tank, big brash and unwieldy.
Despite it's size on the UK roads today (a 17.5 feet long coupe), it was actually considered small by American standards at the time and termed a personal luxury car.
Sharing the same body shape as the '63 and '64 Riv, the '65 model is the only one with the cowled in 'clamshell' headlamps that open and close.
The car was designed by Bill Mitchell, head of Design for GM who was also responsible for the iconic C2 Corvette Stingray - (split rear window coupe), the most desirable Corvette to date.
On the road it is whisper quite with an almost imperceptible gearchange thanks to the sublime Twin Turbine automatic 'box. It is a powerful car but to try to drive it fast is missing the point, just sit back relax and enjoy the huge wave of torque (a monstrous 445 ft-lb) and ultra light power steering.
Be warned though, you may be hard pushed to break double figures on fuel consumption!
