Rover P6

Launched in 1963 the Rover P6 was a sleek new design and a departure from the ministerial barges of the past. The new car had a two litre four cylinder engine and featured non-stressed panels bolted to a unit frame - inspired by another club favourite the Citroen DS.

The car won many awards for design and safety on its launch with a wealth of innovative features such as the horizontally positioned front shock absorbers, running the length of the front wings, which allowed for plenty of space for a Gas Turbine engine to be fitted!

The gas turbine never came to fruition, which was a shame as it could have been a whole lot of fun, but the additional under-bonnet space did allow for the Buick small block V8 derived engine to be fitted. This engine went on to be a huge success in it's own right finding itself, in various guises, powering vehicles as diverse as TVR's, Range Rovers, ambulances and countless hotrods and kit cars.

Turn the key on the club's spotless white example and immediately the deep V8 rumble puts a smile on your face. On the road the car gets admiring glances from young and old alike, as it cuts through town in a menacing shark like way. It is surprisingly modern in its feel, a word apart from the P5.

Grab this car for the evening and relive the days of the Sweeney, wide collars and proper geezers. An absolute must for a night out at the dogs!
