Classic Car Club Rally to Hell (Part Drei)
LONDON - SALZBURG - NURBURGRING - BERLIN - LONDON: Mission Accomplished
This month CCC teams and members from both sides of the Atlantic embarked on an epic journey through Europe on the third Classic Car Club "Rally to Hell". This was the first European tour - the previous two were held in the America starting from our New York branch
We said goodbye to 250 Old Street at the stroke of midnight and drove through the night and the following day via France, Belgium, Germany and Austria to Salzburg where we were welcomed by our buddies at Red Bull who gave us an exclusive tour of their big boys toyshop known as Hanger 7.
Not content with forcing beer, champagne and Red Bull on us and allowing us to luxuriate in their Bondesque facilities they took us low level flying through the Alps in their freshly restored and highly polished Douglas DC-6B. The flight was incredible - truly a once in a lifetime experience.
The following day we made our way back through Austria and Germany at breakneck (legal) speeds to the Nurburgring. If you don't know, this is an insane 13 mile one-way, public toll-road that winds up and down through the mountains via a series of ridiculous twists, turns and hairpins. It seems the only rule at the Nurburgring is if you crash could you please drag yourself to the side of the road as quickly as possible trying not to leave blood or oil on the racing line. After a few tutorial and sighting laps courtesy of the boys at RSR Nurburg we scared ourselves stupid.
That night tales of heroism and terror were exchanged in an archetypal German guesthouse in the mountains where we relaxed with few glasses of chilled Riesling and an illicit game of poker.
Then for the final leg we headed off bright and early north and east to Berlin via an American tribute diner for ribs and wings (just to keep those damn Yankies happy). The infamous "White Trash" club was the destination for a night of mayhem, mishaps and general malarkey - enough said. The following day we returned safely to the UK very tired and very satisfied. An amazing time was had by all and incredibly nobody picked up so much as a parking ticket!
